No BS! Brass will kick off the Weis Center for the Performing Arts' 2015–16 Season on Friday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m.

The family-friendly performance will take place outdoors at the Weis Center Plaza. The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic meal. Cool beverages will be provided.

The rain location is the Weis Center Lobby. A rain call will be made on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The event is sponsored, in part, by Backyard Broadcasting.

No BS! Brass is a powerful brass band that incorporates the spirit of New Orleans into its original East Coast modern funk. Their danceable arrangements draw inspiration from funk, jazz, klezmer, calypso and Led Zeppelin.

Nearly every member of this 11-piece brass band has had conservatory training, holding various degrees in music.

Founded in 2006 and based in Richmond, Va., the band has quickly earned a reputation as a premiere band to see for heart-pounding energy and uncontrollable dancing.

Spin Magazine called their performances, "A hot, irrepressible blast of brass and canon-like grooves."

No BS! Brass has been touring up and down the East Coast for the last several years performing at venues and festivals including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Festival of New Trumpet Music, Lock's Festival and on National Public Radio's Tiny Desk Concert.

For more information about the performance, contact Lisa Leighton, Weis Center marketing and outreach director, at 570-577-3727 or by email.

The next performance in the Weis Center's 2015–16 Season Series is a free jazz-soul-pop concert by singer/songwriter Kellylee Evans, Friday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. at the Weis Center Plaza. This performance is also free and open to the public.
