Bucknell University's Theatre & Dance department will present four showings of the play Next to Normal Feb. 24–27 in Tustin Studio Theatre. The performances on Feb. 24, 25 and 27 will begin at 7:30 p.m. and there will be a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. General admission is $10, or $5 for students and senior citizens.

Alex Golden '17 will serve as music director while Dustyn Martincich will direct the play. Other credits include music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey.

This work follows the Goodmans, a suburban family that on the surface appears no different from any other, yet is actually coping with loss, grief and mental illness. The mother, Diana, suffers from bipolar depression and hallucinations of her dead son. Breaking new ground for musical theatre content, Yorkey and Kitt take us on a journey where we realize that normality itself is a social construct and something that we have been trained to put far too much stock into as we search for identity, attempt to define our relationships and find inroads toward forgiveness. Next to Normal received 11 Tony Award nominations in 2009 and won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
