James Raven of the University of Essex in England will give a lecture titled "The History of the Book" on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. in the Traditional Reading Room, located in Bertrand Library on the Bucknell University campus. This lecture is free and open to the public.

This will be the first of four lectures in the series titled "The Book: Past, Present, Future," during the 2016-17 academic year. It will feature preeminent international scholars discussing various aspects of books. Raven's talk will review the past, present and future of books and examine some of the different disciplinary and methodological strands, bonds and tensions between them. A professor of modern history at the University of Essex, he is the author of numerous books and articles and holds several fellowships at different universities and societies.

This lecture is co-sponsored by the Bucknell Humanities Center, Bucknell Press, and Library & IT.
