Mariachi Los Camperos will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts, to close the Weis Center's 2016-17 season.

Mariachi Los Camperos was founded in 1960 by mariachi giant Natividad "Nati" Cano. His passing in October 2014 was mourned nationwide by performers, students and lovers of mariachi. A traditionalist and a visionary, Cano played an integral role in the development of mariachi music in North America by training and mentoring new generations of mariachi musicians, by expanding the repertoire, and by bringing mariachi performance out of the traditional venue, the cantinas, and into the concert hall.

The ensemble emerged as a major driving force of mariachi music in the United States and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010. Los Camperos is known for Cano's musical arrangements that highlight the individual skills and voices of the players. The ensemble features the finest musicians from Mexico and the United States and has performed for audiences worldwide.

Mariachi Los Camperos was one of four mariachi bands that collaborated on Linda Ronstadt's album Canciones de Mi Padre (Songs of my Father). From 1988-89, the group worked on the promotion of the album, including national television appearances on programs such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and the Grammy Awards. They also appear on Linda Ronstadt's Mas Canciones (More Songs).

Tickets for the performance are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors 62+, $10 for youth 18 and under, $10 for Bucknell employees and retirees (limit 2), $10 for Bucknell students (limit 2), and $10 for non-Bucknell college students (limit 2). Tickets can be purchased online at the Campus Box Office or by calling 570-577-1000.
