LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell Forum series, "Creativity: Beyond the Box," will continue in spring 2011 with three speakers from different backgrounds who will offer a variety of insights on the power of creativity.

All of the spring Bucknell Forum events will be held at 7:30 p.m. on their respective dates in Trout Auditorium of the Vaughan Literature Building. The talks are free and open to the public

Brian Greene
Noted physicist and string theorist Brian Greene will give the talk, "Breakthrough Thinking: Challenging what we know," on Tuesday, Feb. 8. [this event has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 19]

Called the "single best explainer of abstruse concepts in the world today" by The Washington Post, Greene is the author of two best-sellers.

His first, The Elegant Universe, recounts how the theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics transformed our view of the universe and introduces the radical concepts of string theory.

Bernice Johnson Reagon
Civil rights activist, renowned gospel singer, and "songtalker" Bernice Johnson Reagon will speak on Tuesday, March 1. A major cultural voice for freedom and justice beginning during the Civil Rights Movement, Reagon has been an impassioned advocate of "community-based culture with an enlarged capacity for those ... who seem to be different than us."

Her many honors include the MacArthur Fellowship, which she received "in recognition of (her) accomplishments in music and African-American culture, which demonstrate (her) originality, dedication to creative pursuits, and capacity for self direction."

Edwidge Danticat
Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat will speak on Tuesday, April 12. Danticat has been praised as one of America's finest young writers since her 1994 debut work, Breath, Eyes, Memory.

Her numerous publications and work on behalf of her native Haiti have earned her such honors as the MacArthur Genius Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Author Paule Marshall has said of her, "A silenced Haiti has once again found its literary voice."

The "Creativity: Beyond the Box" series will run through fall 2011.
