LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell University Concert Chorale will perform in concert Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the Weis Center at Bucknell University. The performance, which is free and open to the public, is directed by William Payn, professor of music at Bucknell.

"A highlight of the concert is guest artist Jeffrey Van, a composer/classical guitarist who will perform with the Concert Chorale, who are singing his new three movement work, "Night Sings To Morning", written for chorus and guitar," said Payn.

The 50-member chorale also will perform choral works by 21st century American composers Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, Z. Randall Stroope and Eric William Barnum.

"A fascinating and fun new work by Paul Carey, 'Play With Your Food!' will delight all 'foodies' in the audience," said Payn. "The three poems used in this work are very witty with punch lines that demonstrate substantial poetic skill and brilliant narrative timing."

The performance will conclude with three traditional songs and an 'Air' including "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair", "Follow the Drinkin' Gourd", "Danny Boy" and a rousing rendition of "Down by the Riverside."

Guitarist and composer
Van has premiered more than 50 works for guitar, including Dominick Argento's "Letters from Composers," five concertos, and a broad variety of chamber music. He has performed in Carnegie Hall, London's Wigmore Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and as part of Duologue, with flutist Susan Morris De Jong. He also has premiered and recorded commissioned works from more than a dozen composers, including Stephen Paulus, Roberto Sierra, Tania Leon, Michael Daugherty, Libby Larsen and William Bolcom.

Featured on many National Public Radio broadcasts, including St. Paul Sunday, Van has made several solo and ensemble recordings and appears on eight recordings with the Dale Warland Singers. The recipient of an M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota School of Music where he was a Lecturer in Guitar for several decades, he has taught master classes throughout the United States. He is a founding member of The Hill House Chamber Players, now in its 26th season.

His compositions include works for guitar, guitar and violin, guitar and flute, chorus, chamber ensemble, and vocal solo. His music is published by MorningStar Music Publishers, Boosey & Hawkes, Walton, Colla Voce, Hal Leonard, and earthsongs. A CD of his "Reflexiones Concertantes" (Concerto for Two Guitars and Chamber Orchestra) has been released on the Centaur label.
