The heart of many chemical engineering operations is the chemical reactor. This laboratory offers team-based and student-defined projects investigating reaction engineering problems in areas of interest within the chemical industry.
A number of reactor and reaction types can be employed, including batch, continuous, catalytic, contaminant cleanup, and fermentation. These are supported by modern analytical methods such as ion, gas, and liquid chromatography, light and ultra-violet spectroscopy, and other in-line sensors which allow reaction parameters to be monitored and analyzed via computer.
