LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time in University history, the Bucknell Alumni Association has selected a group of classmates to receive the coveted Loyalty Award, to be presented at Reunion Rally on June 3.
Given for extraordinary service, dedication and commitment to alma mater, the Loyalty to Bucknell Award will be presented to the six members from the Class of 1956 who have been members of the University's Board of Trustees: David Ekedahl, Ernest Kalman, Arthur Kinney Jr., James Leo, Samuel Posner, and James Schubauer.
The tradition carries back to 1951 when Kenneth W. Slifer, Class of 1926, received the first Loyalty Award.
The Alumni Association has featured dual winners on several occasions and twice honored married Bucknellians - Geoffrey '54 and Barbara "Bobbie" Folk '56 Mynott in 1993; and, two years ago, Robert and Helen "Honey" Rhinesmith Baker, both from the Class of 1944 - but never a group of classmates.
Also being honored by the Alumni Association at this year's Reunion will be: Brenda Earl DePaola '81 (Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession); James Owens '86 (Service to Humanity); and Peter Rovick '91 and Mitchell Blumenfeld '91 (Young Alumni Award).
