LEWISBURG, Pa. — I-Council, an international student organization at Bucknell University, will host its annual international auction Saturday, March 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Hunt Hall Formal.
Sponsored by International Student Services, the "It's Our World" auction will benefit UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, which is the main advocate for global action on the epidemic.
Bucknell international students have brought items to donate to the auction from their home countries, including Austria, Brazil, Burma, Gambia, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.
"Items to be auctioned this year include wall hangings from Burma and India, a colorful hammock from Nicaragua, pewter candle holders from Thailand, wind chimes from Honduras and jewelry from Brazil and Pakistan, among other lovely items," said Paula Cogan, director of International Student Services at Bucknell.
Persons attending the auction also may bid on the chance to have students cook an ethnic meal for them. The auction will feature music and refreshments including a bake sale sponsored by the International Friendship Host Family program.
This is the fourth year the Bucknell international student organization has held an auction to benefit various causes including victims of an earthquake in India in 2001, refugees in Afghanistan in 2002 and UNICEF last year.
