LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's legendary Christy Mathewson was selected as a member of the inaugural College Baseball Hall of Fame Veteran Class.
Mathewson is one of four pre-1947 players that will be inducted as a part of a celebration of college baseball in Lubbock, Tex., on July 3-4.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2007, which also includes Lou Gehrig of Columbia, Joe Sewell of Alabama and John "Jack" Barry of Holy Cross, was selected after surviving two elimination ballots in a rigorous voting process that began with 300 nomination candidates last February.
Mathewson, who is often regarded as baseball's greatest pitcher, was one of five original members of the Baseball Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Bucknell Hall of Fame in 1979.
