LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University will host Reunion Weekend May 31 through June 3, with thousands of alumni planning to return to the campus.
Several events are open to the local community during Reunion Weekend including:
A concert with trumpeter and 1977 Bucknell graduate Mark Morganelli will perform in concert Friday, June 1, at 8 p.m. in Bucknell Hall. Morganelli will perform with Steve Bowman, tenor saxophone; Steve Rudolph, piano; Steve Varner, bass; and Phil Haynes, drums. The Reunion event is part of Bucknell's continuing Jazz at Bucknell series.
The Hufnagle Footbridge 25th anniversary celebration Saturday, June 2, at 3 p.m. Two 1982 graduates, Randy Cassidy and Brian Hassinger, under the supervisor of Professor Robert J. Brungraber, designed and constructed a covered footbridge for their senior design project in 1981–82. The bridge was donated to the Borough of Lewisburg and placed across Bull Run in Hufnagle Park as a memorial to the former Lewisburg Chief of Police, Gordy Hufnagle, who died rescuing people during the 1972 Agnes flood.
A fireworks display Saturday, June 2, at 10:30 p.m. Spectators may view the fireworks from the academic quad in front of Bertrand Library. Parking will be available in the farm lot located off Seventh Street or above the stadium. Dent Drive between Seventh Street and Stadium will be closed from 9 to 11:30 p.m.
According to Melissa McBrayer, assistant director of alumni programs at Bucknell, "The fireworks were a new addition to Reunion last year, and we're very excited to be able to invite the community again," she said.
Bucknell alumni who return to campus participate in a variety of activities including Alumni College classes on the Bucknell Environmental Center, the campus master plan and astronomy; children's activities; and open house gatherings for fraternities, sororities, athletics and other groups.
A highlight of the weekend is Reunion Rally, when all returning alumni gather in the Weis Center to present class gifts and recognize the Alumni Award winners honored by the Bucknell University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Honored this year will be Eric Allgaier, a 1982 graduate, recipient of the Loyalty to Bucknell Award; Beverly Dunston Scott, a 1952 graduate, recipient of the Award for Service to Humanity; Bruce Lundvall, a 1957 graduate, recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession; and Doug Lebda, a 1992 graduate, recipient of the Young Alumni Award.
