LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell University alumni, numbering more than 47,000 worldwide, will have easily accessible and readily available alumni news and university event information thanks to a unique collaboration between Bucknell, one of the nation's largest private liberal arts universities, and A4AMobile®, the one-stop solution for scalable, results-oriented, mobile marketing. Bucknell and A4AMobile today announced the launch of a carrier-independent, alumni mobile wireless platform and WAP-site (Wireless Application Protocol).
The Bucknell Alumni Wireless Community will allow the University's alumni to opt in to receive Bucknell information on their cell phones. Through this pilot program, users will be able to view a special Web page designed for mobile phones, and receive text messages about important campus and alumni announcements.
Available by texting the word BUJOIN to the short code 299669, or by opting in on the University alumni Web site, this pioneering service gives alumni immediate access to what's happening on campus, alumni and career development news, and university event information specific to three distinct groups – those who graduated 1-5 years ago; 6-10 years ago, and 11 or more years ago. Alerts will be received via mobile devices and/or e-mail.
Next step in digital technology
The service is the next step in Bucknell's use of digital technology – including portals, blogs, and podcasts – for information-sharing.
"This collaboration with A4AMobile has resulted in a mobile wireless solution for Bucknell that exemplifies the University's commitment to being a first-mover in technologies that provide services and information to our global alumni community," said Bucknell University President Brian C. Mitchell.
Bucknell alumnus Berge Ayvazian, Chief Strategy Officer of Yankee Group, the most respected source of insight and counsel on the impact of global connectivity, understands the milestone the collaboration provides his alma mater: "The Bucknell alumni mobile wireless portal developed with A4AMobile will allow the University's diverse and dispersed alumni to stay connected to news and events on campus even when they are on the move. The use of the Telcordia® Mobile Messaging and Application Platform will enable advanced push messaging and database management features that will keep Bucknell University at the forefront of the Anywhere Global Connectivity Revolution."
The technology backbone of this service is the Telcordia Mobile Messaging and Application Platform, part of Telcordia Notification Solutions, a comprehensive database management and push messaging solution with real-time reporting functions, which was previously available only to government entities and financial corporations.
"A4AMobile is proud to offer Bucknell alumni a mobile wireless platform customized to provide a measurable, scalable value proposition," said A4AMobile CEO Richard Humphrey. "For the first time, higher education will have the same opportunity for community building, on-demand news, event information and related media as the commercial sector."
