LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Reduced Shakespeare Company will present, "The Complete History of America (abridged): Election Year Edition," on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University. Tickets are $20.
According to Bill Boswell, executive director of the Weis Center, the show presents "600 years of U.S. history in 6,000 seconds.
"From the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from the New World to the New World Order, the three cultural guerillas of the Company lead audiences on a riotous and extremely funny rollercoaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American history," he said.
Three-man comedy troupe
The Reduced Shakespeare Company began as a three-man comedy troupe known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them into short, sharp comedies. As authors, they have created six stage shows, two television specials, and numerous radio pieces.
In addition to ongoing tours of the U.S. and Great Britain, the company has performed at the White House, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and London's West End. The troupe has been seen on all the major American and British television networks and they are heard frequently on both National Public Radio and the BBC.
The company's first three shows, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)," "The Complete History of America (abridged)" and "The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged)," ran for nine years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus.
The performance is part of the University's annual Family Weekend celebration.
