LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University's Department of Theatre will present the Theatre Showcase production of "Mud" by Maria Irene Fornes on Feb. 6, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. in Tustin Theatre. Admission is $3.
Directed by Bucknell junior Julia Frieri, the play examines one woman's efforts to free herself from the poverty she was born into.
According to Frieri, "Mud" follows Mae as she struggles to have a decent life.
"Her efforts are challenged by Lloyd and Henry, the men in her life who want to keep her in the house and all for themselves. These men not only struggle for dominance over one another, but also for ownership of Mae," said Frieri.
"Fornes creates a stark world of poverty and uses the basic instincts we all have to drive these characters. Come see if Mae will ever follow her dreams and make it out of the mud," she said.
Showcase projects offer students opportunities to gain experience in performance, stage direction, design and technology. Tickets are available from the box office or at the door one hour prior to each performance.
