This editorial style guide provides guidelines for writing style, word usage and other editorial issues particular to Bucknell University. These standards are for use in all published materials that represent the University to an external audience. The guide follows The Associated Press Stylebook and Merriam Webster Online (www.merriam-webster.com). The Chicago Manual of Style is used as a secondary source for information not supplied in the primary references. Style references for individual disciplines should be consulted for academic writing.

Further explanation is included when necessary to explain nuances, variations or exceptions. Unless noted specifically as examples, correct usage is indicated within the explanations in italics.
