LEWISBURG, Pa. — Steve Holmes, a Bucknell University trustee, '79 graduate and parent of three Bucknell students, has been named chair of the presidential search committee, Board of Trustees Chair Ken Freeman announced today. || Letter from Ken Freeman

The board plans to formally initiate the search for President Brian C. Mitchell's successor shortly after the September board retreat that will be held on campus Sept. 10-12.

"Our 17th president will assume the leadership of one of America's finest institutions of higher learning, and we will conduct a comprehensive search consistent with the best standards of executive searches in higher education," said Freeman, Class of '72. "We fully expect to identify a first-rate leader capable of building on the successes of President Mitchell's tenure, carrying this great institution forward, and further strengthening the University's reputation for excellence nationally and internationally."

CEO of Wyndham Worldwide
Holmes, who is the parent of '06 and '08 graduates and a Class of '12 student, is chairman and CEO of Wyndham Worldwide Corporation. "He brings to this assignment exceptional commitment to the University, wide-ranging search experience at the executive level, and intimate familiarity with the caliber and potential of Bucknell," Freeman said.

The search committee will include representatives from the trustees, faculty (including the chair of the faculty) and administration/staff; a student; a member of the Alumni Board; and a member of the Parents Board, as well as an on-campus administrator to support the committee's work. Holmes will announce the members shortly.

This week, the board will seek proposals from leading higher education search firms to assist the committee in conducting a comprehensive search. The board plans to identify and appoint a candidate in a timely manner that will allow the next president to assume office effective July 1, 2010.
