Trustee Chair Kenneth Freeman '72
Aug. 25, 2009
Good evening everyone. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Bucknell community, it is my honor to formally proclaim the opening of the 2009-10 academic year.
This evening as we usher in a new chapter in the history of Bucknell University, we welcome the Class of 2013, along with new transfer students, and the continuing and new faculty and staff members who make the Bucknell experience so special.
Tonight, each of you formally joins the Bucknell family and becomes a vital part of sustaining a proud and distinguished tradition of exceptional learning.
Sense of wonder
Each August, Convocation represents the venue for everyone associated with Bucknell to establish or renew a sense of wonder, curiosity, and excitement about the wealth of opportunities that await us during the academic year that begins tomorrow morning. For those of you who are new to the University, no pressure here, but we look to each of you as valuable sources of additional fuel for a vibrant academic life — by providing ideas, talents, and energies that shape the life of this campus community with meaning and purpose.
You are joining quite a community! Students in the Classes of 2010, 2011, and 2012, along with our faculty and staff members, have been waiting for you. They are poised to support you, just as they are eager to challenge you and become your colleagues. Together, I am quite certain that you will discover new ways of seeing the world, and new ways of contributing to it.
Everyone on the Board of Trustees wishes you a year of success and fulfillment. Welcome to Bucknell, a special place that you will make extra special!
