LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University senior Randy Gowat is one of 24 students from North America to be selected as an Australian Education International North America ambassador for the 2009-10 academic year.

Gowat, a civil and environmental engineering major from Peckville, Pa., studied in Australia at the University of New South Wales in the spring of 2009.

Student ambassadors are U.S. and Canadian students who have recently studied abroad in Australia. As an ambassador, they promote study in Australia through campus events, peer advising and online social networking.

As a result of his selection, Gowat is among those highlighted on the Study in Australia website.

Living independently
"All of my expectations were surpassed once I arrived and every day in Australia presented me with a new experience or surprise," said Gowat in his online profile. "Living independently and being thousands of miles from home and living in Sydney also helped me gain a better perspective on how I fit in with the world, and gave me a taste of what city living is like."

While the senior was in Australia, he worked as one of eight Bucknell study abroad bloggers. His posts can be seen at the Earlier Editions section of the Study Abroad Blog.
