LEWISBURG, Pa. — With less than 24 hours to go, Bucknell University is set to break a record for the number of donors who have made a gift to the 2010 Annual Fund. Only 42 more donors are needed to reach the milestone of 16,800 before midnight. || Give now
Gifts from alumni, parents and friends demonstrate strong loyalty to the University and support for students, said Scott Rosevear, interim vice president of Development and Alumni Relations.
"Institutions like Bucknell depend on philanthropy to maintain the highest quality of education," Rosevear said. "We are extremely grateful for the support of our donors and proud to be a priority in their personal giving, especially as the economy continues to recover. It's a significant time at Bucknell, and alumni want to be involved."
Current University developments include the soft opening of the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University bookstore this Saturday. On July 1, John Bravman, a distinguished professor and academic leader from Stanford University, takes office as the 17th president of Bucknell.
Also on July 1, Bucknell's comprehensive campaign enters its fourth year. Nearly $150 million in gifts and commitments have been raised toward the $400 million goal in support of The Plan for Bucknell.

More than 16,000 Bucknell donors have already made gifts to the 2010 Annual Fund. About 1,400 more are needed to reach the alumni participation goal of 40 percent, said Josh Grill, director of the Annual Fund.
Alumni participation is widely viewed as a key indicator of support for colleges and universities.
"We're running very strong with gifts below the $25,000 level, which are the foundation of every annual fund," Grill said. "More Bucknellians, particularly recent graduates, are becoming aware that small gifts add up quickly."

Gifts made to the Annual Fund benefit all aspects of the University, including scholarships, academics and student life, and are put to immediate use. The 2010 Annual Fund goal is $10.3 million.
