Bucknell University Press Contracts with the Rowman & Littlefield
Beginning in July 2010, Bucknell University Press books will be published by Rowman & Littlefield, a very large, independent publisher of scholarly, trade, and popular books. With headquarters in Lanham, Md, Rowman & Littlefield have large distribution centers in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa and Boulder, Co, and Plymouth, England, and also satellite offices in New York City, Chicago, Boston, and Toronto.
A $50 million company, Rowman & Littlefield was founded in 1975 by CEO and President Jed Lyons and his partners. Over the past 35 years, the group has published more than 20,000 titles, mostly in the humanities and social sciences, as well as many reference books and books of general interest. Their imprints include Rowman & Littlefield, Lexington Books, Scarecrow Press, and AltaMira, and they have co-published books with hundreds of scholarly organizations.
The benefits to Bucknell University Press of a partnership with R&L include long-term stability, a global promotional plan, representation at many academic conferences, a print-on-demand facility, ebook services, an electronic backlist, and more printing options.
This transition marks the end of a 42-year partnership between the Bucknell University Press and Associated University Presses (AUP), a small family business run by Thomas Yoseloff, once director of the University of Pennsylvania Press, and brought to Bucknell by John Wheatcroft, emeritus professor of English. Our press's association with AUP produced over 1000 titles in the humanities and social sciences since 1968.
