LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University's Rooke Chapel Ringers will perform in concert in five locations — on both the east and the west coasts — in January 2011 as part of the Annual Senior Winter Tour.
The schedule of appearances includes:
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, Palo Alto, Calif.
Thursday, Jan. 6, North Elementary School in Hillsborough, Atherton, Calif.; (morning assembly)
Saturday, Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m., Newark First United Methodist Church, Newark, N.Y.
Sunday, Jan. 9, 7:30 p.m., The First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, Caldwell, N.J.
Monday, Jan. 10, 7 p.m., The First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, Haddonfield, N.J.
Organized in 1983 under the direction of William A. Payn, director of choral studies, the choir consists of 16 members selected by audition and who represent every major field of study at Bucknell, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business administration, education and engineering.
The Ringers play regularly for Protestant worship services on campus and participate in the traditional ringing-in-of-Christmas at Candlelight services in Rooke Chapel each December.
This popular performance, taped and repeatedly televised as "A Bucknell Candlelight Christmas" by PBS for national distribution, was nominated for an Emmy in 1996 and 2004. The service was taped in December 2009 for airing in 2010 by WVIA-TV, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre PBS affiliate. A special DVD/CD package is available for purchase at www.wvia.org or at the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University bookstore. A Christmas compact disc, which also includes the Rooke Chapel Choir, was released by Albany Records in November 1995.
The Ringers include Bucknell seniors Corinne Brandt, Haddonfield, N.J., Andy Hallagan, Newark, N.Y., Cliff Reilly, San Francisco, Calif., and Emily Stein, Caldwell, N.J.; juniors Emily Ehrenberger, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Maria Thomas, Easton, Pa.; sophomores Kelli Bruno, Cranford, N.J., Betsy Curry, Hershey, Pa., Devon Mercer, Great Falls, Va., Annie Schulenburg, Basking Ridge, N.J., Daniel Stern, Woodbridge, Va., and Jen Weber, Flemington, N.J.; and first-year students Peter Bye, Morristown, N.J., Kate Lebold, West Chester, Pa., and Melissa Replogle, Brookside, N.J.
