LEWISBURG, Pa. — Kathryn Maguet, the Center Series Director at the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center, has been named the executive director of the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University. She will begin her duties on May 9.
"Kathryn Maguet brings to the Weis Center a wealth of experience, ranging from academics to film festivals and community outreach," Bucknell Provost Mick Smyer said. "We look forward to her bringing this experience to further developing programming for one of the finest performance halls in the region."
As executive director, Maguet will supervise and administer all aspects of the Weis Center. She will be responsible for programming and curating Weis Center events, including the Weis Center Performance Series, and for negotiating performance contracts as well as developing and coordinating promotional materials for events.
Maguet will work with academic and administrative departments on matters of campus performing arts and cultural programming, including master classes as possible for appropriate academic departments.
Artistic and educational programming
As director with the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center, Maguet was responsible for booking, presenting and evaluating the diverse performing arts season there. She worked closely with academic departments and faculty from the University of Massachusetts and the Five Colleges system to develop relevant collaborative programs and projects connected to the curriculum.
Maguet directed strategic development of the center's artistic and educational programming. She also developed student arts administration internship opportunities and co-created student participation and attendance initiatives for students within the Five Colleges system.
Prior to her position at the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center, Maguet held similar positions at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Idaho, Peery's Egyptian Theatre in Utah, and Hamilton College in New York. She also served as director of marketing and public relations with the Ballet Arts Minnesota/City Children's Nutcracker Project in Minneapolis.
Maguet received her bachelor of science degree in communications and dance from Illinois State University, her bachelor of arts degree in theater arts from Millikin University, and her master of arts degree in arts administration from The American University.
She has been an adjunct faculty member in theater arts at Weber State University and professor of theater arts at Mankato State University. She also served as the Bud Greenspan Film Festival coordinator with the Salt Lake Cultural Olympiad and venue manager with the Sundance Film Festival.
The 1,200-seat Weis Center at Bucknell each year hosts nearly 100 professional and campus music, dance and theater events, as well as lectures, convocations and other functions. Bill Boswell, who served as its executive director for 22 years, is retiring April 30.
The executive director search committee included Jim Rice (chair), associate provost and dean of graduate studies; Lois Svard, professor of music; Renee Gosson, associate dean of the faculty and associate professor of French; Paula Davis, associate professor of theater and dance; Dave Myers, executive director of government and foundation relations; and Param Bedi, chief information officer.
