LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Dominick Farinacci Group will perform in a jazz recital on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University.
The performance, which is free and open to the public, is part of the ongoing Janet Weis Cabaret Jazz Series, a series is made possible by funding from the Weis family.
"This is a rare opportunity to experience the music of a future jazz legend in the wonderful and intimate setting of the Weis Center lobby," said Kathryn Maguet, executive director of the Weis Center at Bucknell and the curator for this series. "Farinacci is truly a rising star in the jazz world."
Farinacci will be joined by Dan Kaufman, piano; Paul Sikivie, bass; Lawrence Leathers, drums; and Keita Ogowa, percussion
Farinacci, the New York-based jazz trumpeter, is the recipient of the International New Star Award (along with Diana Krall and Christian McBride), the Disney New Star Award, and first place honors in the Carmine Caruso International Trumpet Competition.
He is newly appointed as the 2011-12 artist-in-residence at the Creative Center for the Arts in Cleveland, an educational facility that houses the Tri-C Jazz Studies Program and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Archives.
Wynton Marsalis asked Farinacci, then aged 17, to perform with him on a PBS Special at Lincoln Center. Shortly afterward, he was selected as one of 18 musicians worldwide to be part of the inaugural class of the jazz studies program at The Juilliard School.
He has headlined at many major festivals and clubs both nationally and internationally including Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Birdland, Yoshi's, Scullers, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Detroit International Jazz Festival, the Tri-C JazzFest and both the Toronto and Montreal Jazz Festivals in Canada.
He is touring in support of his second U.S. release, 'Dawn of Goodbye' (Eone Music), following seven critically acclaimed CDs as a leader in Japan.
He has toured Japan regularly since 2003, and has performed in Korea, Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom. He has performed and/or recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, Mulgrew Miller, Lewis Nash, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, Jimmy Heath and Benny Golson.
