LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Film/Media Studies Department at Bucknell University will present several student works Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Admission is $2 per person.

The films — a selection of student video essays, experimental works and film productions created by Bucknell students in several majors — includes two videos executed under the guidance of art professor Tulu Bayar for her Multimedia and Instillation art course by Bucknell master's candidate Aaron Meyers.

"Pawl" is inspired by a ratchet, which convert multidirectional motion into direct linear movement. The video contains a human ratchet and a fifth grade boy who intuitively paints a wooden structure; these figures represent the filmmaker's conflicting views and examine the desirability of being a ratchet. "Body Pressure" was inspired by Bruce Nauman, who believed that if a person braces his or her body against a wall for an extended period of time, you can make the participant aware of his or her body and the space in which it exists.

Other videos, from English/film/media studies professor Eric Faden's class, include sophomore Julian Fleming and Codie Cepon, a first-year mechanical engineering major, explores how Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" uses the camera as the narrator.

Sophomore Ally Kebba and Jonathan DelToro, a junior majoring in music, explore the film technique of montage.

First-year student Matt Geraci and Saratoga Schaefer, a junior majoring in English - film/media studies, explore intellectual montage, expressionism and realism.

The Film/Media Studies major is one of three majors offered in the English department (along with Literary Studies and Creative Writing). The major applies traditional literary practices of close reading and critical thinking to the realm of film and media. Students learn about film and media practices through historical study of American and world cinema, theoretical analysis, and creative, hands-on production.
