The German Studies Program uses an on-line placement exam. We recommend that all students who have had German in high school take the exam whether or not you are considering taking German in your first semester. Remember, no matter what field you are in, there are many study abroad and internship opportunities in Germany.

For entering first-year students: You will automatically be directed to the placement exam if you list German as one of your choices for classes in the fall you begin at Bucknell and indicate that you have had German in high school. If you wish to take this test at another time, the password is: bison1. If for some reason you do not receive this letter or if you have problems accessing the on-line placement exam, please send an email to Academic Assistant Pamela Glass (pglass@bucknell.edu), who is overseeing the on-line placement program for the Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics.

PLEASE NOTE that when you begin the placement test, you will be asked for information such as your name and your ID#. Please enter your Bucknell ID number for this.

For those students who require an accommodation of a reader for the Placement Exam due to a disability, please contact Professor Bastian Heinsohn (bh021@bucknell.edu).

If you have further questions about your placement, please send me an email, and I will respond to your questions either via email or telephone as soon as I can.

During Orientation in August there will be an information session about the German Studies Program. We look forward to meeting you then.

Access the placement exam.

Thank you.
