The German Club promotes the study of German culture and language at Bucknell, and is run by students, for students. Throughout the year we sponsor films, speakers, discussions, study breaks and trips. In the past, we have visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., taken a trip to the Amish country in Lancaster County, and shared our experiences with other students who are interested in traveling abroad.
Communicate in a language spoken by more than 100 million people worldwide. Increase your job opportunities. Speak the language of famous writers, musicians, scientists and thinkers.
After graduating from Bucknell, many German Studies majors (most of whom have a second major in another field) return to Germany to study or work. Unique to us is the Bucknell-Heidelberg Exchange. This program allows one graduating senior to study for one year at the University of Heidelberg on a fellowship. Other majors have returned to Germany on Fulbright scholarships, internships administered by the Carl-Duisberg-Gesellschaft, or as interns for the German parliament.
We emphasize active and communicative learning, role-playing, debates, group and partner work and computer-aided instruction as key elements in studying German language, culture and literature.
German Studies students interact with and learn from a native language teaching assistant from Germany each year.
German Studies majors and minors are encouraged to supplement their study with work in other languages as well as European history, history of art, music, philosophy or work in European political science and economics.
German Studies majors and minors are urged to study abroad through approved programs including those in Hamburg, Berlin or Munich.

My interests include the relationship between gender, class and national identity in the 19th century, fictional representations of science and technology, contemporary juvenile literature, language for special purposes such as Business German and foreign language pedagogy including instructional technology.More about Professor Morris-Keitel
