The Bucknell "In" Summer Programs are short term programs constructed around a course or academic theme. These programs provide students with the opportunity to focus on key issues unique to the country or region where they are studying.

Bucknell in Bali

UNIV 200: Music and Mathematics: Exploring Balinese Culture. Using two disciplinary lenses, mathematics and music, students explore theoretical perspectives and engage in hands-on activities related to the mathematical underpinnings and musical aspects of Balinese culture. This three-week course features a series of faculty-led seminars, expert-run participatory workshops, and class field trips, providing participating students the opportunity to explore the richness of Balinese culture.

Bucknell in the Caribbean

ENGL 277: Caribbean Literatures, Histories, & Cultures in Context. Through readings, lectures, field trips, volunteer projects, attendance and participation in cultural performances, ethnographic interviews, as well as analytical reflections on their experiences, Bucknell in the Caribbean provides first-hand information about the literatures, histories, and cultures of the Caribbean. Students explore the long-term cross-cultural impacts of slavery, colonization, independence, and tourism. The islands of St. Kitts, Nevis, and Montserrat serve as our classroom.

Bucknell in Northern Ireland

UNIV/PSYC/GEOG 238: Paths to Peace. This 3.5 week study abroad, community-based learning program takes place in the Northern Irish city of Derry/Londonderry in the United Kingdom, close to the border of the Republic of Ireland. This program is offered in partnership with Holywell Trust, an organization focused on innovative community development and peace-building projects in the city of Derry/Londonderry. Students attend seminar sessions, panel discussions, and engage in fieldwork to learn about the voluntary sector in the Northern Irish peace and reconciliation process.
