Mike Ajjan - Student Stories

This is Mike. He's gone on Bucknell trips to the Dominican Republic to provide relief, to Memphis to learn about civil rights and to Burma to learn about its Jewish legacy. He's also obsessed with planes, which is fitting for a guy who can't stay in one place.

Engineering students are required to have one year of either chemistry or physics; however, Bucknell strongly recommends a minimum of three years of science, including chemistry and physics.

At least two-and-a-half years of college-preparatory mathematics are required for admission. Science, engineering and math students need at least three years' worth.

You'll need to complete at least two years of one foreign language in high school to be admitted to Bucknell.

You don't have to know your exact major. You can apply "undecided" to the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Management or the College of Engineering.

How Financial Aid Works

Question

Does my parents’ income have to be at a certain level for me to be eligible for aid?

Many variables (parent and student income, parent and student assets, number of family members in the household, etc.) are included in the calculation of financial need. There is no specific income cutoff in the determination of financial aid eligibility.

Question

What does my enrollment need to be in order to receive aid?

You must be enrolled full-time to be eligible for Bucknell Grants and Scholarships. For federal or state aid, you must be enrolled at least half-time.

Question

What is the verification process for first year students?

In May/June, we review the figures on your tax returns, W-2 forms and verification forms to make sure that you are still eligible for the original aid package that we awarded to you. If we have to make any changes to your package, we'll inform you as soon as possible and ask for any additional information.

Question

Is financial assistance available for graduate study at Bucknell?

Some graduate grant assistance is available. Contact Graduate Studies (570-577-1304) for more information. Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 in unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan. Students may also be eligible for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan.

Question

How is my aid package handled if I study abroad?

ANSWER: If you are studying in a Bucknell approved off-campus program, typically you will receive the amount of aid you would have received had you remained on Bucknell's campus. Federal Work-Study cannot be used for off-campus study.

Question

Can I receive financial aid for summer school?

If you're required to go to summer school by a Dean because of deficient GPA and/or credit hours, aid may be a possibility. We cannot cover the entire cost. You will be responsible for a portion. We cannot provide summer aid to a student who either has graduated or will be graduating in May closest to the summer program in question.
