West Branch Internship
West Branch magazine offers a semester-long internship giving students who wish to pursue a career in writing or publishing the chance to gain relevant experience for their future. Housed at the Stadler Center for Poetry, West Branch publishes poetry, fiction, essays and reviews three times per year.
Interns assist the editors of West Branch in several aspects of producing a periodical publication, including reading submissions, proofreading, and participating in editorial meetings where content decisions are made. Interns conduct a literary interview with a West Branch contributor and complete a series of reading/writing assignments on literary magazines. The internship typically requires six to ten hours per week, with some time spent in the West Branch office at the Stadler Center for Poetry & Literary Arts and the balance of time devoted to reading and writing assignments.
West Branch interns receive course credit for one elective (ENCW 237.01). In the Creative Writing major, the internship fulfills an elective requirement or the Literary Citizenship/Ethics requirement in the new major. This is a non-paid internship.
