About Jessen Havill

Jessen Havill joined the Bucknell faculty in 2022, thirty years after graduating from Bucknell with majors in Computer Science and Religion, an experience that sparked his love of learning and his commitment to liberal arts education. Throughout his career, he has sought out connections between computer science and other disciplines, leading to the publication of an interdisciplinary, problem-oriented introductory textbook, now in its second edition. Jessen's research interests are in the analysis of online algorithms and computational biology. His current research project aims to characterize novel sequences of DNA, likely derived from ancient viruses, in the genomes of wild-caught mosquitoes. Before joining the Bucknell faculty, Jessen spent 24 years teaching at Denison University in Ohio.
