Emergency Communication & Preparedness
It is important for all members of the campus community — employees and students — to be proactive in learning what to do during an emergency. Please review the information on emergencies in buildings, threats and suspicious activity and weather and environmental emergencies in order to be prepared in the event of an emergency situation on campus.
Bucknell operates an alert system to notify the campus community of emergency situations as quickly as possible. To ensure you're notified when an emergency situation occurs, please review the instructions on how to update your contact information. Emergency alerts will only be used for incidents that pose an imminent threat to the health and safety of the University community or when required by the Clery Act.
You can report emergencies on campus 24/7 using the contact information below or by using the BSAFE app. During an emergency, follow all instructions from Public Safety, other emergency responders and University officials.

Emergency Notification System
Bucknell is committed to ensuring the safety of our campus community by keeping staff, faculty and students updated on emergency situations. Public Safety utilizes Rave Alert, a real-time, mass notification system, to send alerts via desktop notification (on Bucknell-owned computers only), text message, email, phone calls and the BSAFE app as quickly as possible.
There is also an outdoor public alert system that consists of speakers at key locations across campus. Public Safety may utilize the speakers to indicate an emergency is occurring on campus and what actions should be followed. The system is tested twice a year to ensure its functionality.
For students
Sign up for alerts by providing your mobile phone number here, and selecting “confirm changes.” You can add up to three phone numbers to your profile. If you would like a parent or family member to receive these notifications, you can add their number here too. Just make sure to include your own phone number and not only one belonging to another person.
You can access and update this information anytime in the campus dashboard by selecting “My Profile” from the menu on the left, then “Emergency Contact Information (Students)” on your profile page.
For employees
For faculty and staff, the primary phone number that each employee has listed in Workday is automatically setup as the contact for emergency alerts. Please ensure your Workday contact information is up-to-date.
Optionally, Rave allows each person to enter up to two additional numbers to receive alerts. This feature can be used to allow designate other people as contacts that will also receive alerts from Bucknell Public Safety.
- Visit RAVE Alert here: https://www.getrave.com/login/bucknell
- Login via Bucknell Single Sign On (SSO).
- Navigate to the Mobile Phones section.
- DO NOT edit or delete the 1st mobile phone number listed. This is the number from your Workday contact information, and it updated automatically by the system.
- Select ADD and enter the numbers you want to receive alerts.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the verification step as prompted by RAVE Alert.
- You can return to this website at any time to manage any additional numbers.
All students and employees will automatically receive alerts to their Bucknell email accounts and the BSAFE app, if installed.
