Astronomy: molecular gas, star formation and dynamics in nearby galaxies
Michele studies how stars form on large scales in nearby galaxies
Her work incorporates observations of molecular and atomic gas clouds between stars (the material from which stars form), as well as positions and motions of recently formed stars. Studies of where stars form (and how efficiently) are important for understanding the evolution of galaxies and what we can learn by observing their starlight.
