Bucknell University is ranked first in Pennsylvania and 12th among all colleges and universities, sixth among statewide employers, and 89th overall in Forbes' 2026 list of "America's Best Midsize Employers." The annual rankings, produced in partnership with market research firm Statista, recognize 500 midsize organizations nationwide.

Bucknell's performance in this year's rankings marks significant gains from 2025. The University rose 125 places among all midsize employers, climbed one spot among Pennsylvania employers, and advanced 16 places among all colleges and universities nationwide.

The 11th annual rankings are based primarily on survey responses from more than 217,000 employees working at U.S. organizations with more than 1,000 employees. Employers were categorized as midsize if they have between 1,000 and 5,000 employees.

Survey participants, who remained anonymous to ensure candid responses, were asked whether they would recommend their employer to others and to rate their workplace on a range of criteria, including salary, work environment, benefits and opportunities for advancement. Respondents also evaluated previous employers from the past two years and organizations they knew through industry experience or through friends and family.

Survey responses were analyzed alongside additional data collected over the past three years to assess consistent performance over time. More recent feedback and evaluations from current employees were weighted more heavily in determining final scores.

Bucknell employs more than 1,300 full-time faculty and staff, with an average length of service of more than 10 years. The University's ranking places it among a select group of institutions and businesses recognized for their exceptional employment practices, employee satisfaction and positive workplace environment.

"We are deeply honored to be recognized by Forbes as the top college and university employer in Pennsylvania and among the leading institutions nationwide," says Bucknell President John Bravman. "This distinction is a testament to the extraordinary dedication of our faculty and staff. Our success as an institution depends on their talent and commitment, and we remain focused on fostering a workplace where every member of our community can grow, contribute and thrive."

As Bucknell continues to rise in the Forbes rankings, it remains focused on supporting a workplace that values innovation, collaboration and human connection — key ingredients in fulfilling its mission and achieving institutional excellence.
