Event Security
Technology in Use
To help ensure the safety security of all Commencement attendees, the University has instituted enhanced security measures, including metal and weapons detection technology at entrances to Malesardi Quad. All Commencement guests must be screened prior to entry and should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony to ensure ample time to take their seats. Secondary screenings will be conducted as needed by security staff.
Graduates will pass through a security check as the procession enters Malesardi Quad. Graduates will not be permitted to bring prohibited items (see below) into the Commencement ceremony.
Guests who leave and return during the event will be rescreened. Those who enter Coleman Hall, Marts Hall or Vaughan Literature Building from the Quad will not need to be re-screened when returning to the Quad.
Access to Malesardi Quad and security checkpoints will open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17.
Bag Restrictions
Only small clutch bags (approximately the size of a hand) and bags made of clear plastic (of any size) will be allowed on Malesardi Quad. Exceptions will be made only for University employees and vendors whose work requires event-related supplies or equipment.

Relocation & Emergency Evacuation Plans
We expect the Commencement Ceremony to be held outside on Malesardi Quadrangle on Sunday, rain or shine. Any changes in location due to severe weather will be determined by 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Since there is limited indoor seating available, only individuals with tickets will be admitted if the event is moved indoors. Each graduate will receive five general admission tickets for the indoor ceremony when they receive their cap and gown. Guests who do not have tickets can view Commencement by live webcast at additional viewing locations, which will be posted on the University website and in the Elaine Langone Center.
To alert you to any change due to weather or other emergencies, we will make announcements through the alert system. Signup for Commencement alerts before May 8 to make sure you stay informed on any changes or emergency alerts.
