Office of Accessibility Resources

The Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) engages in an interactive process with each student and reviews requests for accommodations on an individualized, case-by-case basis.

At a student’s request and when appropriate, OAR Director (oar@bucknell.edu or 570-577-1188) is available to:

Meet with any student regarding academic concerns.
Consult with students regarding approved accommodations and make the appropriate referrals to on and off-campus resources when needed.
Advise students on ways to talk to professors regarding accommodation needs.
Facilitate conversations between students and professors to identify reasonable accommodations for specific academic needs.
Discuss assistive technologies and other academic adjustments.

The OAR director talks to the individual about documentation during the initial conversation. No student should delay meeting with the OAR director, even if the student has concerns about not having the appropriate documentation.

Resources

The OAR recommends that the professor should be providing the test (including the accommodation) to their students. If there is a schedule conflict or if the student has a distraction-reduced testing environment accommodation, the OAR Testing Center is available.

To initiate the process and be provided with testing accommodations, the student must register with the OAR.

Alternative Format for Printed Materials

Depending on the nature and functional limitations of a student’s documented disability, the student may be eligible for an alternative format for printed materials accommodation.

Disability-Related Modification in Attendance

Attendance during scheduled class time is a necessary part of the learning process at Bucknell University. While most faculty consider class attendance and participation mandatory, the Director of the OAR may recommend a modification in attendance for some students registered with the OAR.
