Biology Major Tap-dances Her Way Through Bucknell

October 22, 2018

Katie Cantagallo ’20 is the founder and president of the Bison Beatz Tap Dance Club.

Tap dancing helped bring Katie Cantagallo '20 to Bucknell, and now she's returning the favor.

A tap dancer since her early childhood, Cantagallo submitted a video of herself performing a tap routine with her application for an arts merit scholarship. It helped her win the scholarship, so it was a natural fit for the biology major from Millstone Township, N.J., to start a new tap dancing club at the University.

Since founding the Bison Beatz Tap Club in 2017, Cantagallo has helped student actors polish their shuffles and ball changes for the musical Crazy for You, and more recently performed during a dance showcase at Homecoming. She also busts more contemporary moves during athletics events as a member of the Bison Girls Dance Team.

"It was really cool to see that there was a whole community of people here who want to learn different styles of dance, and that there was space to do that," Cantagallo said.
