Bucknell’s Student Leaders Honored for Service and Activism

May 9, 2018

Selfless. Courageous. Resilient. And determined to "rock the world."

These are just a few ways Bucknell faculty and staff described the recipients of this year's Student Leadership Awards, which honor students who have promoted positive change on campus, built bridges across communities and mentored future leaders.

A ceremony held Sunday, April 22, in the Elaine Langone Center recognized more than 30 students who have displayed exceptional leadership through their service and activism outside the classroom. Honorees included representatives of each graduating class, who were presented with Class Awards of Excellence. Recipients were:

  • Liv Cabrera '21, major undeclared
  • Chandler Houldin '20, majoring in education and women's & gender studies
  • Ariana Fisher '19, who majors in anthropology and Africana studies
  • Amanda Battle '18, majoring in political science

In addition, mechanical engineering major Brishti Mandal '20 was presented with the Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes a member of the first-year or sophomore class who demonstrates outstanding leadership potential.

"Brishti is a student leader who is never too busy to talk with prospective students, to lend a helping hand on a project or to greet you with a smile," said Denelle Brown, associate dean of students, who presented Mandal's award. "I am excited to see what else is in store for us as Brishti continues to change the world."

The annual awards are coordinated by Student Affairs.
