Beginning in the 2026–27 academic year, students in any major — from any of Bucknell's three colleges— will be able to enroll in a new management consulting minor within the Freeman College of Management. This program will introduce students from all majors to problem-solving approaches that complement a wide range of academic paths across the arts, humanities, engineering and management.

Developed in response to alumni working in consulting and related fields, the minor reflects a growing demand for graduates who can move fluidly between disciplines and apply structured thinking to challenges.

"This new minor and concentration are the results of a unique collaboration between alumni, students and faculty," says Professor Eric Martin, management & organizations (MORS), who worked with Professor Neil Boyd, management & organizations, to bring the concept to life. "Neil conducted a survey with alumni who are in consulting careers, and then we did the same thing with seniors to determine which courses should be offered."

The minor is composed of five courses, including four foundations courses:

  • MORS 201 Organizational Forms, Strategy and Structure
  • MORS 202 People in Organizations
  • MORS 221 Management Research and Analysis
  • MORS 400 Management Consulting

"MORS 400 is a capstone of the management & organizations major," says Martin. "It's where students get to take what they've learned and then go out into the world and apply it to real clients and stakeholders in the region."

In MORS 400, students act as consultants. They meet with community partners, define a problem, gather and analyze data, and then develop strategic recommendations that they present to their client. In the past, students have developed strategic plans for the Mount Carmel Community Center, the Shamokin Reuse Warehouse and the performance of the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership.

Along with the four foundations courses, students will also enroll in one breadth course of their choice:

  • MORS 210 Human Resource Management
  • MORS 222 Strategic Management
  • MORS 230 Global Management
  • MORS 240 Entrepreneurship
  • MORS 299 Management Internship
  • MORS 302 Responsible Management
  • MORS 340 Advanced Entrepreneurship
  • ANOP 102 Spreadsheet Modeling & Data Analysis
  • ANOP 270 Data Visualization for Business Analytics

"One thing we found in our surveys is that there's a real desire to not only collect and analyze data, but also to craft compelling narratives around data," says Martin. "So there's an opportunity for students from any college to take a course in data visualization through the new minor and learn more about the role that data plays in shaping the strategy of an organization."

Freeman College of Management students who are majoring in management & organizations will also have the opportunity to elect a management consulting concentration to focus on building the skills they need to shape organizational strategy across a variety of sectors and fields.
