The Bucknell Opera Theatre program offers a variety of training in opera and musical theatre genres with opportunities to perform and direct. Under the direction of Dr. Emily Martin, the Opera Theatre performs works by composers such as Mozart, Sondheim, Barber, Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Purcell. We believe that versatility is the key to marketability in order to be a successful performer.
Undergraduate students present one fully staged and costumed opera/musical with orchestra each year in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Other performance opportunities each year include student-directed opera scenes programs, jazz cabarets, soloist opportunities with full orchestra, opera education, and community performances.
Our students have been selected as finalists in the National Opera Association Collegiate Scenes Competition, as Young Artists for programs such as Opera Steamboat and Taos Opera Institute, and have attended Masters Programs in Voice Performance at Peabody Conservatory, Boston Conservatory and Westminster Choir College, among others.
