March 31, 2024: A Message to Bucknellians

Dear Bucknellians,

Our community has experienced two consecutive waves of fear and loss in a short period of time. I wish to express my appreciation for our students, who have moved through the past 48 hours with kindness and fortitude. I also commend our tireless faculty and staff, who continue to respond and provide support even as they process what's happened. Our first responders, in particular, have endured a wrenching few days with professionalism and grace. You all have my admiration and deep gratitude.

I want to assure all members of our community that the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff are our foremost, enduring priorities. Those in need of support or assistance are encouraged to use the resources shared by Interim Dean McKinney, and to come together in community in events planned for next week.

I also ask that you keep this in mind: Each of us brings our whole self to this campus. Our past experiences shape not only who we are, but also how we react to frightening or tragic events. As we lean on one another for support, please remember that there is no one right or wrong way to grieve.

I hope you will join me on Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in Rooke Chapel for a vigil to honor Christian's memory. Together we will find strength and solace in our shared compassion and resilience.

Sincerely,

John C. Bravman
President
