Academic Advising and Your Schedule

• College of Arts & Sciences

  General questions about the Arts & Sciences curricula and registering for classes can be answered by participating in the following:

  1. Attending the webinar on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. (or watching a recording)
  2. Attending a one-on-one meeting with a faculty adviser
  3. Reading the information on the CAS First-year Moodle page
  4. Emailing fycas@bucknell.edu

  Additionally, you'll be connected with a personal CAS Mentor Collective peer mentor — a sophomore, junior or senior CAS student who will be available as a peer mentor before you arrive and throughout your first year.

  For questions regarding courses or majors in specific departments or programs, consult the Class of 2028 Department Contact List that will be posted later this spring to summer. These faculty answer questions from incoming students about their department and course offerings.

  • You'll be able to view your schedule in myBucknell in early August.
  • During Orientation in August, you will meet with your official academic adviser.
    • Bachelor of arts degree: Your Foundation Seminar instructor will serve as your academic adviser until you declare a major in your sophomore year.
    • Bachelor of science degree: You will have an adviser in your major, and your Foundation Seminar instructor will serve as a second adviser just for the first semester.
    • You'll be able to change your schedule and register for open classes on Thursday and Friday before classes start.
    • You'll have an additional opportunity to make changes during the drop/add period (the first two weeks of classes).

   

• College of Engineering

  General questions about the engineering curricula, AP credits, major declarations and registering for classes will be discussed during the Summer Academic Advising sessions held virtually on Zoom. Recordings of online advising sessions can be viewed later on the Engineering First-year Orientation Moodle page.

  Additionally, as an incoming student, you'll be connected with a Garman Guide –– a sophomore, junior or senior engineering student who will be available as a peer mentor as you arrive and throughout your first year.

  • You'll be able to view your schedule in myBucknell in early August.
  • During Orientation on campus, you will attend departmental academic advising with a faculty member and attend the first meeting with your Garman Guide.
    • If you have declared your major in the College of Engineering, you'll share an adviser with other incoming students in that major.
    • If you're an undeclared engineer, you'll be assigned to an undeclared adviser (an engineering faculty member) until you declare a major. Once you declare, during the first semester, you'll be reassigned to the adviser for your class year in that department.
  • You'll be able to change your schedule and register for open classes on the Thursday and Friday before classes start.
  • You'll have an additional opportunity to make changes during the drop/add period (the first two weeks of classes).

   

• Freeman College of Management

  As a Freeman College of Management student, you must review the content included in the Freeman First-year Orientation Moodle Page and participate in (or watch a recording of) one of the three scheduled Zoom web advising sessions with the Freeman College Office of Student Support. Each session will cover a different topic, including an overview of Freeman requirements and expectations, direction on the registration process, and help in understanding your first-semester course schedule.

  Additionally, you'll be paired with a Freeman Fellow, a junior or senior management student who will be available as a peer mentor before you arrive on campus and throughout your first year.

  • You'll be able to view your schedule and your assigned Freeman academic adviser in myBucknell in early August.
  • During Orientation on campus in August, you can meet your assigned Freeman academic adviser. You can connect with your faculty adviser before classes begin to discuss your fall course schedule and to ask any questions. Once you officially declare a major in your sophomore year, you will be assigned an adviser in your major if a change is necessary.
  • You'll be able to change your schedule and register for open classes on the Thursday and Friday before classes start.
  • You'll have an additional opportunity to make changes during the drop/add period (the first two weeks of classes).
