Oct. 27, 2018: Tragedy in Pittsburgh

Dear Bucknellians,

Sadly, it feels as if I could write to you regularly about yet another act of senseless hate and violence in our country and around the world. Today's shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue only a couple of hours away from our campus here in Lewisburg hits particularly close to home and has left many with heavy hearts, and more.

Like other hate crimes, this attack was directed at a specific group, gathered in worship on their sabbath day. It goes without saying that everything about this tragedy stands in the starkest contrast to the values we hold dear.

We strive to support all of our communities, and today in particular, the members of our Jewish community. I urge everyone to take this moment to reflect on what each of us can do to make Bucknell and society better and more caring. And I urge you then to put those thoughts into action.

My best,

John
