Bucknell University Choir & Camerata

Under the direction of Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Beth Willer, the choir and Camerata ensemble enjoy a celebrated tradition of esteemed performances and artistic collaboration at Bucknell and across the globe. Together, these groups offer a wealth of ensemble experience to both majors and non-majors interest in pursuit of vocal performance at Bucknell.

 

University Choir

The Bucknell University Choir is Bucknell's select treble (SSAA) vocal ensemble, comprising 16 to 24 members, open to all members of the Bucknell community, and representing nearly every major field of study at Bucknell. With an emphasis on contemporary repertoire, the University Choir performs a diverse repertoire drawn from the last seven centuries, presenting concerts of a cappella and accompanied works each academic semester at venues across the Bucknell campus and beyond. Performance opportunities include Candlelight Christmas at Rooke Chapel, the Bach @ Bucknell Festival at the Weis Center, and bi-annual domestic and international tours. 

Membership to both choirs is open to all undergraduate & graduate students. Membership in University Choir is also open to faculty and staff of Bucknell University.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5–6:22 p.m.

Bucknell Camerata

The Bucknell Camerata is Bucknell's select mixed (SATB) vocal ensemble, comprised of 16 to 32 voices, open to all members of the Bucknell community, and representing nearly every major field of study at Bucknell. The ensemble specializes in the performance of early and contemporary repertoires, including world premieres of new music, Baroque masterworks with orchestra and frequent collaboration with professional artists.

Performances at Bucknell and Beyond

The University Choir and Camerata continue a long tradition of touring both internationally and domestically, performing in distinguished venues across the globe.

Recent international destinations for the Bucknell choirs have included Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, England, Wales, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, West Germany, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Tours have included collaborations with premiere ensembles including Electric Phoenix (UK), Cambridge's Fitzwilliam String Quartet (UK), the Brewer Chamber Orchestra, the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, the Chorale of Simon Bolivar of Caracas (Venezuela), the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

The Bucknell Choir and the Camerata take part in the Candlelight Carols Services at Rooke Chapel every December. Modeled after the Kings College Christmas Eve Service of Lessons, Candlelight is a storied tradition at Bucknell. Students, faculty, staff and area residents are all welcome to enjoy a night of song and celebrate the Christmas season.
