Engineering & Computing Career Connections Conference

We're hosting our inaugural Engineering & Computing Career Connections Conference (EC4) on campus on Thursday, Sept. 25, to help our students develop a better understanding of engineering career opportunities and to connect them to key alumni. This full-day event offers an opportunity to share your insights and experiences with students, help them explore career paths, understand the engineering profession and build lasting connections with alumni.

1–3 p.m. Networking and Career Exploration (First and Second Year Students)

  • Panelists from different disciplines will share their perspectives on opportunities and challenges shaping the present and future of the profession. Potential topics include:
    • Trends and innovation: What are the opportunities and challenges shaping the current and future landscape of the industry? How are technological advances (e.g., AI, robotics, automation, materials science, 3D printing, IoT, etc.) influencing professional practice? How can students prepare?
    • Sustainability and resilience: How are issues of energy, climate change, water scarcity, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, social equity, etc. influencing engineering design and implementation?
    • Workforce development: Where is the market headed? What are the skills needed for the next generation of engineers, and how should engineering curricula adapt?
    • Big Data: How are engineering companies leveraging data analytics and machine learning to make decisions and optimize engineering solutions?
    • Ethics: What are the major ethical considerations informing or impacting engineering solutions? How are companies balancing innovation with safety and social responsibility?
