Training

Public Safety is committed to maintaining a safe and secure campus. In an effort to accomplish this goal we provide a variety of training materials, classes and seminars upon request. Topics include self-defense, CPR and first aid, active shooter response, situational awareness and de-escaltion techniques.

Training can be requested by individual students and employees as well as by campus entities, including student clubs and organizations, offices and departments. All programs can be tailored to the needs of the requesting organization and the time available for the training. All programs are offered free of charge to students and employees with the exception of CPR training, which requires a certification fee from the American Heart Association.

Public Safety has instructors on staff certified to facilitate the following classes:


ALICE Training is active shooter response training for civilians delivered with a trauma-informed approach in an age- and ability-appropriate way.

AVADE Personal Self-defense Training provides informative, proactive prevention strategies and interventions that can help prevent and mitigate fear, conflict and aggression while creating a culture of safety.

Basic Car Maintenance is offered upon request to individuals or groups seeking to learn the basics of troubleshooting common vehicle issues, such as changing a tire, jumping a dead battery and checking the oil. This is a general overview and demonstration. Individual requests tailored to specific makes and models of vehicle may also be requested and will be accommodated, if possible.

Fraud Awareness teaches participants about common tactics used to defraud and exploit the kindness of others.

Heartsaver CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR, AED use and choking relief. This course uses the American Heart Association's research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows students to mimic accurate skills being performed on a video while instructors provide feedback and guide the students' learning.

  • Class length: 90 minutes
  • Max attendees: Six per class; multiple classes can be scheduled to certify everyone in larger a group. At this time, we are only able to accommodate group requests for this course due to billing requirements.
  • Cost: $20 per participant (to cover the cost of necessary supplies and the fee for certification card registration). An invoice will be sent from Evangelical Community Hospital on behalf of the American Heart Association.

Situational Awareness teaches participants methods and strategies to be prepared rather than paranoid when dealing with challenging situations.
