Testing Accommodations
Policy & Procedure and Testing Center Guidelines
To determine the most appropriate and necessary accommodations, the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) engages in an interactive process with each student and reviews requests for accommodations on an individual, case-by-case basis. To initiate the process and be provided with test accommodations, the student must register with the OAR. Please review the Process for Requesting Accommodations and Documentation Requirements, which can be requested from the OAR and found on the OAR website. Please note that while the OAR will approve accommodations for testing, students are expected to be proactive after the approval process and are expected to schedule their own exam accommodations through the OAR Testing Center.
Testing accommodations are approved by the OAR, but the exam space used to take exams will be provided by either the OAR in the OAR Testing Center and/or faculty. The OAR staff are available to provide information and support throughout all aspects of the testing accommodation process. Below is information about the following:
Testing Accommodation Process
1. Once registered, and as part of the registration process, the student schedules a meeting with a staff person in the OAR. During the scheduled meeting, the Letter of Accommodation will be developed and sent to faculty via email.
2. The student schedules a meeting with their faculty member(s) to determine how the approved test accommodations will be administered (in the OAR Testing Center or at a place determined by faculty).
NOTE: After the Letter of Accommodation has been sent to faculty, students will provide faculty at least 72 business hours advance notice prior to a test if faculty are accommodating tests. (Please see Faculty Responsibility below.)
Students Are Responsible for the Following
1. Registering with the OAR.
2. Ensuring that the Letter of Accommodation is sent to their faculty each semester and summer session (if needed).
3. Filling out the Testing Center Request Form at least 72 business hours in advance for each test that needs proctoring and reminding faculty about their use of the Testing Center.
4. Resolving scheduling conflicts (e.g., overlapping tests, test time running into class time, athletic responsibilities, etc.).
5. Meeting with the Director if they have missed an exam or need assistance or support with the accommodation process.
