This intensive, seven-morning workshop is a centerpiece of Bucknell's Writing Across the Curriculum Program, in which writing is taught by faculty members in all departments of the University. The workshop concentrates on course design, helping faculty members to incorporate writing-to-learn strategies into their courses, redesign a current course to make it writing-intensive, or create a new writing-intensive course.
Workshop facilitators and participants exchange ideas about teaching and explore ways of using writing to teach course material. Some of the approaches modeled, practiced and discussed include methods of teaching writing, designing and sequencing assignments, and responding to and evaluating student writing.
The workshop is an excellent way to reflect on teaching at Bucknell. In addition to helping instructors plan or revise their courses, it allows them to meet new and returning colleagues and to learn more about Bucknell students. The cross-disciplinary discussions generated by the August workshop are wide-ranging. Previous participants have said that they enjoyed the chance to talk about all of their teaching, not just the teaching of writing and that they continued to share ideas with colleagues even after the workshop was over.
Please sign up only if you can attend all seven sessions of the workshop. This workshop is experiential; our learning together depends on the active presence of all registered participants. Breakfast will be provided each morning. Participants will be provided with reading materials and will have many opportunities to receive feedback on course design and materials.
While the workshop is typically attended by new faculty members, continuing faculty members are also welcome. Participants in the workshop receive a stipend. Space in the workshop is limited, so please register early.
