Externships

Externships are one- to two-day job-shadowing experiences for Bucknell students. Hosts are Bucknell alumni, parents or friends of the University who are willing to bring students into their workplaces to observe and gain a better understanding of what they do on a daily basis and the culture in which they work.

The program provides interested sophomores with unpaid, non-credit, short-term shadowing experiences in a wide variety of career and industry areas. Externships take place throughout the country over winter break.

Benefits of an Externship

Students who do externships gain an early exposure to career and industry paths. Taking part will help you make decisions about your future major, the types of internships you want to pursue and the career you want after graduation. You'll also be able to network with professionals, alumni, parents and other individuals.

Hosts gain a closer connection to the Bucknell community and opportunities for career networking. In addition, the program can assist with early identification of future student employees and/or interns.

Become an Externship Host

Hosting an extern requires a short time commitment, typically two days during winter break. Externship hosts select the specific dates and provide:

  1. An itinerary for the experience (samples provided)
  2. An overview of the industry
  3. A glimpse into the world of work
