Class Registration & Grades

Registering for Class

Step 1: Meet with Your Academic Adviser

Before registering, you must make an appointment with your adviser to review your Academic Progress Report and select appropriate courses. Your Academic Progress Report shows your progress toward the general graduation requirements and the specific requirements of your major.

Find up-to-date schedule information

Your adviser will help you select the appropriate courses and give you your Banner Registration PIN. You won't be able to register online without this PIN.

Plan Ahead Feature

Banner Self-Service Registration contains Plan Ahead functionality. This will allow you to build a tentative schedule ahead of your registration time. You can create up to 5 versions of your tentative schedule. When it is your time to register you will be able to add your planned schedule to your registration in one submission. You can access the Plan Ahead on the registration information page in myBucknellWeb prior to the start of the registration period.

Step 2: Find Your Registration Time

Registration dates are based on class year with seniors registering first, then juniors, etc. The start time is based on the first letter of your last name. To find your time, use the chart below to find your class year, then the first letter of your last name. You can only register during or after your assigned registration time.

Remember, if you have class during your assigned time, you may register immediately following class. Do not miss class to complete registration.

Waitlist/Course Adjustments

If a course is not available, you may choose to be placed on the waitlist. You may not register or waitlist for another section of the same course. To place yourself on the waitlist you must first select an alternate course. The registered course will be automatically dropped if you are placed in your first choice. If you are unsure if you've properly linked your waitlist and alternate course, please check with the Registrar's Office.

Course waitlist form

All movement into waitlisted courses will be completed prior to the beginning of the semester. Please check your schedule on myBucknell to see if movement has taken place; notification of schedule changes is not sent. If you do not get moved off the waitlist and do not have a full schedule (at least 4 credits), you will need to add additional credit or request approval. It should be noted, schedules may change after registration due to department requests such as course cancellations, section balancing or added sections. Requested times and faculty cannot be guaranteed. Please check your schedule online to verify courses and sections.

You can access the Waitlist form on the registration information page in myBucknellWeb.

Study Abroad/Off-campus Study

You will receive information from Global & Off-campus Education regarding the process for registering for abroad courses.

Writing Program

As part of the undergraduate program, a student must successfully complete three writing-emphasis courses. These courses teach subject matter through writing and are designed to develop both subject knowledge and writing ability. In these courses, students learn and communicate their knowledge through writing. Writing-emphasis courses are intended to sustain a student's training in writing across the disciplines and throughout four undergraduate years. Therefore, the best plan is to take them in varied fields and to space them out.

For the latest complete listing of writing courses, please go to the Writing Center and select "How to look up a course."

Credit by Examination

Full-time undergraduate students in residence may earn undergraduate credit by examination, with a letter grade assigned, in courses approved by the department and by the dean of the college concerned. Credit by examination is not available to graduate students, special students, students who have previously audited or failed the course, students on exchange from other universities and persons who have never attended Bucknell University. Application for such examinations must be made at specific times on a form available at the Registrar's Office. Approval must be obtained from the department chair and dean of the college concerned. If approval is given, the non-refundable credit by examination fee is to be paid to the Cashier for each examination and the examination is to be taken at the appointed time.

Auditing

By definition, it is not appropriate to enroll as an auditor for courses involving studio art, applied music, independent study, or thesis preparation or for any course requiring extra time and attention from the instructor. Note that courses that have been audited may not be taken subsequently for credit. Regularly enrolled, full-time undergraduate students may carry audits in addition to their regular course load without additional charge. For any audit by all other students, the course audit fee is charged ($150 per course).
