Community Engagement

At Bucknell, we empower you to make a difference in the world around you by working to tackle issues affecting communities large and small, both around Lewisburg and across the globe.

Volunteer on an individual basis or with a group of friends, join one of our community-service organizations, get involved through one of our many clubs, or unite your enthusiasm for a cause with your academic interests through community-based coursework and research. In the process of engaging with the community, you'll share your talents with others and learn valuable skills for life beyond college.

Earn a $20,000 Annual Scholarship for Your Public-service Experience

The Community Engagement Scholars Program supports students who have distinguished themselves as public-service leaders in their home communities and who show promise that they'll contribute to the University's strong culture of service toward others. You can apply along with your application to Bucknell.

The Engaged Bucknell Initiative

Bucknell is engaged. Engaged in community. Engaged in justice. Engaged in global citizenship. Engaged in fostering leaders that are sensitive to the moral and ethical dimensions of life.

Education at Bucknell is about doing. Programs across the University get students out of the classroom and engaged with non-profits, government agencies, farms, volunteer efforts and more — both in our local Susquehanna River Valley and around the world. Engaged Bucknell provides the infrastructure and resources to bring together students, faculty and staff with external partners to engage communities in meaningful ways.

Whether it's tutoring with local schools, collecting data used by non-profits in their operations, digital storytelling, developing marketing and strategic plans for regional organizations, addressing food insecurity, collecting and curating oral histories, or developing new applied precision agriculture conservation techniques, Bucknell is engaged.
